moomoo – 1 Free Apple share and commission-free trading

Singapore investors and traders used to struggle with high brokerage commissions and outdated user interfaces. But the industry is seeing a shift as discount brokers are challenging the status quo.

The latest broker in town, Futu Singapore Pte. Ltd. (‘Futu Singapore’), and their popular trading platform, moomoo is definitely worth mentioning to our audience.

moomoo is the global version of the very popular 富途牛牛 trading platform in China. Investment products and services on moomoo are offered by Futu Singapore, a wholly owned subsidiary of Futu Holdings Limited. The latter is listed on NASDAQ and through its licensed subsidiaries, serves more than 13 million users worldwide.

Futu Singapore is licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and its U.S. affiliate is also a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Why is this important? Because we want a legit broker that is going to stick around for a long time and not close shop due to lack of funds.

You may also want to note that the founder of Futu Holdings Limited, Leaf Hua Li was one of Tencent’s founding employees. Futu is strategically backed by Tencent.

moomoo features I love that other platforms don’t offer

Announcement Alerts

I often had to use different apps and email services to get the company announcement alerts. But moomoo offers announcements right in the app and most importantly, it has an alert function!

Now I can just use one app to get announcements from different exchanges. moomoo has other alerts that are useful for traders too. Check out what is useful for you and automate your information flow as much as possible!

Watchlist-related Announcements

Another feature relating to announcements, has got to be the news page. Many apps provide news about stocks in your watchlist but few provide the official announcements at a glance.

As you can see from the screenshot below, there’s a tab to select announcements. And within the announcement page, you can further filter by markets or even by the stocks that you are holding. It is very convenient for investors to keep up with the announcements using this function.

Major shareholders and their trading activities

The third function that I like is the information on the shareholders. I used to have to go through prospectus or annual reports for this information, but moomoo provides it in the app itself.

Besides that, moomoo went one step further to show the transactions of these major shareholders. In the screenshot on the right, you can see that a good number of fund houses were buying positions in Futu during Jan 2021.

But wait, there’s more

On top of features that make stock analysis easier, Futu Singapore also makes it cheaper and easier for its users to actually invest with:

Access to SG, HK and US markets at lower fees

Even without the promotion, Futu Singapore’s brokerage fees (inclusive of platform fees) are amongst one of the most competitive.

It is just $0.0099 per share (min $1.99 per order) for US stocks and 0.03% or HK$18 per order. Here’s the fees table for your reference:

Do note that fees charged by the stock exchanges and taxes by the government may apply.

Access to a wide variety of investment instruments, on 1 platform
Beyond stocks, moomoo gives you access to ETFs and REITs again with low fees.

On top of those, Futu Singapore plans to offer access to Futures, DLCs, Warrants and CBBC soon.

With these options, you’ll be able to diversify your portfolio conveniently on a single platform.

1 free Apple stock and bonuses

Although they’ve been making waves with their free Apple share promotion previously Futu SG has packed even more bonuses in celebration of Futu’s NASDAQ listing anniversary and moomoo’s official launch in Singapore!

From 1st June to 30th June 2021, Futu Singapore through moomoo is offering a welcome bonus bundle for new users who open a securities account with Futu Singapore.
When you successfully open a new account, you will receive:

  • 180 days of *unlimited commission-free trading for US, HK and SG stock markets (*Platform fees and GST may apply, not for Stock Options and Futures)
  • Free level 2 market data for US stock market,
  • Free level 1 Real-time market data for SGX Securities

On top of that, when you apply for a new account and fulfil their basic requirements, you stand to receive:

  • 1 free AAPL share (Terms & Conditions Apply)

Simply open an account and complete your initial deposit of either SGD 2,700, or USD 2,000 or HKD 16,000, and complete 5 trades within 30 days from account opening.

If you refer your friends thereafter (capped to the first 20 new customers), you’ll enjoy up to 600 days of commission-trading and 1 free Twitter stock.

No-brainer Deal

Futu Singapore’s entry is great news for Singapore investors, especially with their low trading fees and friendly user interface. Along with their range of informative tools, investors can save money and make better investment decisions faster.

If you’re looking to reduce your investing cost with a discount broker, Futu Singapore’s latest sign-up promotion is very enticing with the giveaway of 1 free Apple share, 180 days of commission-free trading, free Level 2 US market data and Free level 1 Real-time market data for SGX Securities. The entire process only takes a few minutes of your time and a few taps on your mobile phone. And you can set it up using your SingPass MyInfo as well.

You can also consider referring others and get commission-free trading on the US, HK and SG markets. Saving hundreds of dollars if not thousands in fees is a guaranteed win.

I would love some commission-free trades so please sign up with my referral link. Thank you in advance!

Terms and conditions for Futu SG’s promotion via the moomoo app apply. Please read the T&Cs carefully. For more information, please contact the customer service team at Futu SG via email: clientservice@futusg.com. You can also call them at +65-6439 1100.
